Backup

If you don’t want the file you’re working on to be uploaded to PutPlace in real time, disable PutPlace until you’re ready for your data to be uploaded. When you are ready, simply turn PutPlace back on. If you’re online, your updates will be immediately uploaded to PutPlace.

Currently, PutPlace automatically backs up content when it is turned on and you are online. To pause automatic backup, turn PutPlace off (don’t forget to turn it back on!). 

Just like browsing and selecting files on your PC, you can browse and select content on a USB drive for backup. If the USB drive isn’t plugged into your PC the next time you are online, PutPlace will simply retain the content previously backed up from your USB drive. If you select the USB drive at port level, PutPlace will backup whatever drive is in the port, each time you are online.

Once you have installed the PutPlace client, open the window and click on the Add icon to browse and select your content.

PutPlace is a great set-and-forget service - it will do what you tell it to, no questions asked.  PutPlace will backup and manage your data, whether you specify to backup a particular document or folder, or even your whole desktop.  

You can see a full history of what has happened in PutPlace by opening the client window and clicking on the history option from the menu at the top. This lists the files that have been backed up in reverse order. You can also check your content in your online repository by clicking on http://putplace.com/signin and logging to view your data. Or access your online repository through the PutPlace client window by clicking on the web icon.

Not yet. But if you’re online regularly, PutPlace is automatically checking for changed and new files in your selected folders and uploading any changes. So, prioritizing shouldn’t be necessary since you’ll always be up-to-date. If you think prioritizing is an important feature, let us know.

Some people like to backup everything, even their desktop. It’s usually pretty easy to decide what you want to backup, but here are some guidelines. Backup content that is the most valuable, most irreplaceable or most troublesome.

Upload times depend on the volume of data you’re uploading. If you are backing up lots of data, then it will take some time. Don’t get us wrong, PutPlace is fast!  But even we need time to backup a lifetime of memories. Once you’ve completed your initial backup, future backups will be much quicker!

PutPlace detects what content has been changed or added so, once your initial backup is complete, PutPlace only backs up changed and added files.

There's no limit to what you can upload. We have subscription levels to cover all kinds of storage amounts up to 80GB.  If you need more than that, just contact us and we will set something up for you. Other than some fair use policy restrictions, upload to your heart's content.
